The first tests were a little surprising.
I thought to have
some problems concerning lifting forces, because I was not sure about my
hydrofoil surface calculations.
In fact, the
board took off in the third test, when the wind speed was strong enough
(about 15 knots)
Two problems appeared:
- First, a bad drift balance which made the board luff.To try to eliminate these two problems, I equipped the main foil strut with fences to avoid ventilation and I fitted a fin at the rear.- Then ventilation occured at the main foil strut.
This last version
steers well and takes off with a 15/18 knots wind.
Speed is not
wonderful (about classical board speed) and ventilation still appears at
high speed.
So, a lot of work is still needed to obtain better performances.
